The Alberta Healthy Living Program is a community-based self-management program that is a part of Alberta Health Services. It supports people 18 and older who live with a long-term (chronic) health condition or disease, such as diabetes, arthritis, or heart disease.

Better Choices, Better Health® Self-Management Workshops
There are two versions of the Better Choices, Better Health® program available in Cantonese. Both workshops are six-weeks long, and are for Albertans living with any long-term (chronic) condition. Participants meet once per week for 2 and a half hours.

The Better Choices, Better Health® - Chronic Disease workshop will teach you about:
- Healthy eating and reading food labels
- Exercise and fall prevention
- Breathing techniques
- Communicating with ourselves and others

The Better Choices, Better Health® - Chronic Pain workshop will teach you about:
- Pain and the brain
- Communicating about chronic pain
- Exercising with chronic pain
- Healthy eating for chronic pain
- How to pace effectively and create a pain diary

Both versions of the workshop will also review:
- Action planning, problem solving and decision making
- Healthy sleep habits
- Relaxation techniques
- Working with healthcare providers
- Communicating effectively with others
Both workshops are free of charge, and are led by trained facilitators.
